Ask for an interpreter
You may need an interpreter when:
- you want to ask us questions about your case or our processes
- we have asked you to take part in a hearing, conference or other meeting about your case.
For a hearing or conference
If English is not your first language and you have been asked to take part in a hearing or conference at the Tribunal, you can ask us to arrange an interpreter for you. We will pay for the interpreter.
Please read the instructions in any letter or email we send you and then tell us if you need an interpreter before the day of the hearing or conference.
You can’t ask a relative or friend to interpret for you at a hearing or conference.

For the cost of a local phone call, you can use the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) to speak with us in your language.
Before you call, have any information or letters from the Tribunal with you.
- Call the TIS on 131 450 (or +61 3 9268 8332, if you are overseas)
- Tell the operator:
- your language
- our name (the Administrative Review Tribunal)
- our phone number (1800 228 333). - The TIS will connect you to us. We are open from 8.30am to 5pm.
