Attending a hearing
If you are a journalist or reporter and you who would like to attend a particular hearing, contact us at media@art.gov.au as early as possible the business day before the scheduled hearing.
Please read the information we provide for members of the public attending Tribunal hearings before you ask us if you can attend a hearing.
The following case events are not generally open to the public:
- conferences
- some hearings within our social security jurisdictional area
- protection (refugee) hearings
- hearings within our intelligence and security jurisdictional area.
Other than these, most hearings can be viewed, either in person at a registry, or virtually, by members of the public, unless the presiding Member decides to close the hearing.
If a public hearing is being held virtually, you can email our media team to ask for a link to the hearing. Please send your email as early as possible on the business day before the scheduled hearing.
Your email should include:
- the date, case number, applicant name of the hearing you want to attend
- your name
- role or position title
- the organisation you work for
- your reply email address and telephone number.
