We will write to you to tell you what to do to get ready for a hearing or other case event.
If you have a lawyer, agent or other representative they might help you get ready too.
If you plan to represent yourself
Some of the ways you can prepare for your hearing or case event are:
- check the date, time and place
- plan to arrive early on the day or be ready to receive the call at the start time
- tell us if you want a witness to attend or if you need an interpreter
- give us any new information, no later than 14 days before a hearing
- read all the documents you have been given and write down the things you want to talk about
- make sure you have all the documents at the hearing.
If you want, you can send us a written summary of your arguments before a hearing, but you must send it to us no later than 7 days beforehand.
If your case will be heard with a representative of the decision-maker, a copy of any new information must be sent to them before the hearing. You should use the contact details in the letter they sent you. A copy should also be sent to any other party.
If you have legal or other representation
While we can help you understand our review process, we can't give advice about your case. Some people who apply for a review use lawyers and other organisations to give them advice.
Even if you have a lawyer or someone else helping you, it is important you read any information we send so you know what you need to do to prepare for your hearing or other case event.
On the day
It is important that you are ready at the right time and place on the day of your listed hearing or case event.
Make sure you read the information in any letter or email we send you. You may be able to check the details about your listed hearing or other case event on our website on the day.
If you are unwell or are going to be late, you should contact us. The member may decide to proceed with the listing by phone or video, or adjourn the matter.
Otherwise, on the morning of your conference or hearing you should check what room you are in.
Plan to arrive with plenty of time to find your room.
We do not publish the details of all cases on our website. When you arrive, you may need to ask our registry staff to help you.
We will give you instructions about how to attend by phone or video when we write to you about your listed hearing or case event.
On the day, make sure you:
- charge your devices
- choose a quiet place to join in
- have a good phone signal
- check that the audio and video on your computer is working.
Do you need an interpreter for your hearing?
When we write to you about the date for your hearing or other case event, we will tell you how to ask for an interpreter. You can also find more information on our languages page.
